Optomap & OCT

Our optometrists conduct a thorough examination of your eyes to check their health and function. We will discuss our findings with you and advise you on the most appropriate course of action including the type of visual correction most appropriate to you.

Ultra-widefield Retinal Imaging

Regular eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall eye health. We offer the optomap® as an important part of our comprehensive eye examination. The optomap scan produces a unique image that provides us with a high-resolution 200° (80%) view of your retina. This is much wider than a traditional camera 45° (15%) picture image that most opticians have.

A number of eye problems can develop without you knowing and you may not even notice any change in your sight. These types of problems can eventually lead to problems in your sight:

Macular degeneration

Glaucoma

Retinal tears or detachments

Other health problems such as diabetes and Macular degeneration, can also be seen with a thorough exam of the retina. The inclusion of optomap as part of our comprehensive eye exam provides a more comprehensive view of your retina than other methods allow, that we can view over time and compare for any changes.

The optomap is fast, easy, and comfortable for anyone. The entire image process consists of you looking into the device one eye at a time. The optomap images are shown immediately on a computer screen so we can review it with you.

Optical Coherence Tomography

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test. OCT uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina, which lets us see beneath the eyes surface.

With OCT, our optometrist can see, map and measure the thickness of each of the retina’s distinctive layers. These measurements help in the diagnosis of some retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic eye disease. If you are experiencing unusual visual symptoms having an OCT scan provides a more in-depth picture of your eye, to help your optometrist diagnose the issue and provide appropriate management.

The OCT is fast, easy, and comfortable for anyone. The entire image process consists of you looking into the device one eye at a time. The OCT images are shown immediately on a computer screen so we can review it with you.
